Golfing in City of Parramatta
About 25 kilometres west of the Sydney CBD, Parramatta's three courses make a genuinely mixed bag. Oatlands is the members' club, a private parkland from 1931 with a Rupert Black layout of tree-framed holes and plenty of bunkering, set in a quiet pocket that feels removed from the city and known for a strong junior and coaching program. Muirfield at North Rocks is open to the public and carries a borrowed name: incorporated in 1953, it took the title, with permission, from the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers' Muirfield in Scotland, and its members bought the course outright in 1988. Its gently undulating parkland is easy walking, with water hazards and a couple of demanding long par 4s. Parramatta Golf Club rounds things out as a shorter par-62 public course, handy for a quick round close to town.
