Golfing in Snowy Valleys Council
Mountain country golf is the theme in Snowy Valleys, where all three courses are public and set on the western side of the southernmost Great Dividing Range, much of it national park. Tumut Golf Club carries the most weight: an 18-hole, par-74 country course in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains, known locally as the Friendly Club, with grassy fairways, hillside outlooks, plenty of length and the odd mob of kangaroos. Talbingo Country Club offers a scenic nine holes beside Jounama Dam, and with tennis courts and a six-room motel on site it doubles as the town's social hub. Further south in the mountains, Khancoban is a par-36 nine-holer with no bunkers and generous couch greens, yet it plays trickier than its simple setup suggests and rewards a second visit.
