Golfing in Coorong District Council
Golf in the Coorong district is public, unhurried and spread across farming towns such as Meningie, Coonalpyn and Tailem Bend. Lake Albert Golf Club at Meningie, 150 kilometres from Adelaide on the shores of Lake Albert, is the standout: an 18-hole, par-72 course from 1981 by Bow Jude and Dave Cleland, with tree-lined fairways over rolling ground that are watered all year. It is peaceful and picturesque, and hilly enough that a cart is a popular call. Tintinara is another 18-hole country course just off the highway, tidy and fair off the tee. Tailem Bend is a flat, easy-walking nine with dual tees, praised for its greens and value, while Coonalpyn's nine-holer is a straightforward, green layout where friendly members make passing golfers welcome.
