Golfing in Southern Mallee District Council
Out in the Murray Mallee, on the shortest road route between Adelaide and Sydney, golf follows the two main towns, each with a public 18-hole course. Pinnaroo Golf Course, a par-68 layout in the heart of the township, is greener than visitors expect from rural South Australia, thanks to a dedicated volunteer greenkeeping crew who keep the grass greens and fairways well manicured. It is an easy, walkable round, and its nine greens can be played as a full 18 or a quick nine for anyone passing through. Lameroo Golf Club plays to par 71 with watered greens and offers an unhurried round in a quiet country town. The two clubs also go head to head for the RA Hawthorne Cup, a local contest between neighbouring Mallee towns.
