Golfing in Port Pirie Regional Council
Port Pirie's golf pairs a historic town club with a smaller country course, and both are public 18-holers set between Spencer Gulf and the Southern Flinders Ranges. Port Pirie Golf Course at Risdon Park South dates from 1912 and plays to a long par 74 on sand greens in dry-country surrounds. A program is under way to green its fairways, and players notice the course looking better as the watered green surrounds take hold. It is a social, easygoing round, and the clubhouse, with its Friday night dinners, is half the appeal. Crystal Brook Golf Course on the Gladstone road is a shorter par-65 country layout across green, pleasant terrain, with a few steeper holes adding interest and a friendly clubhouse that has had recent improvements.
