Golfing in City of West Torrens
For a council of just 37 square kilometres between Adelaide's western parklands and West Beach, West Torrens holds a remarkable share of South Australia's best golf. Kooyonga at Lockleys, a 1923 Cargie Rymill design, is ranked 21st in Australian Golf Digest's 2026 Top 100 and hosted Australian Opens won by Gary Player and Peter Thomson. It plays over undulating sand hills, with wide fairways and well-defended greens that reward careful thinking. Glenelg at Novar Gardens, another Rymill original from 1927, sits 29th, and after a long redevelopment it shows off links character in its natural dunes, native grasses, wetlands and revetted bunkers, with bentgrass greens that roll true. Both are private members' clubs. For public golfers, Drummond Golf at West Beach offers a driving range, mini golf and a well-stocked pro shop.
