Golfing in Break O'Day Council
Golf in Break O'Day is all nine-hole and all public, but the four courses along Tasmania's East Coast and in the Fingal Valley have plenty of personality between them. St Helens Golf Club, dating from 1922, plays 18 tees to par 71 in bushland on the edge of town, with greens that stay in good shape even after heavy rain and enough challenge to justify the stop. Scamander River is a well-kept par-72 coastal nine with a links feel and long holes, including par 5s on the back nine, that let you open the shoulders. Inland, St Marys is a modest rural course with an honesty box and a friendly bar, while Malahide at Fingal, a Peter Togood design, winds over undulating bushland with valley views, mostly wide fairways and small, demanding greens.
