Golfing in Meander Valley Council
From Launceston's western edge up the Meander River towards the Great Western Tiers, all three courses are open to the public, and each has a clear personality. Prospect Vale Golf Club is the 18-hole parkland option on the Launceston side, as much about practice as play, with an updated driving range and well-regarded coaching that make it a good fit for newcomers and juniors. Quamby Estate at Hagley is the scenic one: a nine-hole, par-37 layout designed by Ian MacFarlane in 1990 on elevated ground, with tree-lined avenues, hedgerows, lakes, cascades and Scottish-style bunkers, plus long rough that punishes loose driving. Further west, Deloraine Golf Club has been playing its nine-hole country course since 1920, with contoured, undulating fairways, water hazards, mature trees and pretty views, kept in shape by volunteers.
