Golfing in West Tamar Council
Along the western side of the kanamaluka/Tamar estuary, from Launceston's edge to the river mouth, all three courses are public and nicely varied. Riverside Golf Club, formed in 1930 at Hobblers Bridge before moving to its present home, has a compact 18-hole, par-65 parkland layout minutes from Launceston, a relaxed, walkable round with good greens, plenty of birdlife and a full set of practice facilities. Exeter has a nine-hole parkland course with 18 tees that plays well above its size, with pure, reactive greens, lush fairways that hold up in summer, and enough elevation and doglegs to work the legs. At the river mouth, Greens Beach's nine holes, built in 1950, mix traditional, resort and links-style golf beside Bass Strait, with highly regarded greens and the beach close enough for a post-round swim.
