Golfing in Sorell Council
South-east of Hobart, around the shallow waters of Pitt Water, the golf is two nine-holers with very different arrangements. Pittwater Golf Club at Midway Point is a private members' club founded in 1950, its course set along the shores of Orielton Lagoon about 25 kilometres from Hobart. The par-36 parkland layout is fully irrigated tee to green, with well-mown fairways that give good run and greens that have firmed and quickened, and it suits everyone from beginners to stronger players; members of affiliated clubs can play socially. Murraville Golf Club at Dunalley, a par-66 country course, is open to the public and run by volunteers on an honesty-envelope system. Lush fairways, smooth greens and a water-guarded 9th are the talking points, and the clubhouse serves good-value meals, with RV sites alongside.
