Golfing in Southern Midlands Council
Tasmania's central midlands offer four public nine-holers, a quiet circuit of country golf within reach of Hobart. Oatlands is the oldest, dating from 1902, a par-35 course with watered tees, greens and fairways, no bunkers to speak of and plenty of birdlife; the wind is its main defence, and the 6th, with a rocky cliff face behind the green, is the hole people remember. Elderslie at Broadmarsh, founded in 1947, sits in rural country about 30 minutes from Hobart, a tranquil, immaculately presented par-70 round over gently rolling fairways with 18 tee beds. Colebrook Golf Club at Campania is a non-profit club that welcomes green-fee players to a par-70 Coal River Valley layout long enough to use most of the bag. Bagdad Public Golf Course is a short par-27 layout for sharpening the short game.
