Golfing in Frankston City Council
On the eastern shore of Port Phillip, Frankston's golf leans heavily on the Sandbelt. The heavyweight is Peninsula Kingswood, a private 36-hole club formed in 2013 when Peninsula Country Golf Club merged with Kingswood, the first merger of two golf clubs in Australia; its North and South courses, reworked by Mike Cocking, are demanding tests with pure greens and exacting bunkering, best suited to experienced players. Sandhurst Club offers 36 holes of Peter Thomson and Thomson Perrett design open to the public, pairing the sandbelt-styled Champions course with the links-inspired North. Centenary Park in Frankston North is a very playable public course from 1938 with a driving range. Long Island Country Club brings a beachside setting and sandy bunkering, while Frankston Golf Club is a private nine-holer whose small, tricky greens and up-and-down terrain reward thoughtful play.
