Golfing in Glenelg Shire Council
Out in Victoria's south-west corner, along the Glenelg River and inland from the port town of Portland, golf is country golf, and all four courses welcome visitors. Heywood stands out for its friendly members and attractive setting, an 18-hole, par-72 country club offering a fair, well-maintained test, though the greens can be variable. Merino provides another 18-hole country club round, low-key and local. Casterton's 18 holes at Corndale are known for smooth, flat fairways, and the par-72 parkland layout is a manageable length for a wide range of players. Dartmoor, close to the Glenelg River, is a scenic nine-hole course. None of these are destination layouts, but for golfers touring the south-west they deliver easygoing rounds, quiet fairways and a genuine country welcome.
