Golfing in West Wimmera Shire Council
Out on the South Australian border, West Wimmera is wheat, sheep and wetland country around the Little Desert, and every one of its six courses is open to the public. Kaniva Golf Club is an 18-hole grass-greens course through natural bushland, par 72, that stages a night-golf event each year with glowing balls. Edenhope is its parkland match, with lush watered fairways, true-rolling greens and penal rough among native bush, where red-tailed cockatoos are regular visitors. Goroke and Harrow are both 18-hole sand-scrape courses, Goroke's mature trees demanding accuracy off the tee and Harrow's season running from April to November. Serviceton is a compact par 67 of under 4,800 metres that rewards straight hitting, and Apsley, a par 72 of about 5,300 metres, completes a circuit of honest, unhurried country golf.
