Golfing in Moyne Shire Council
Moyne runs from the Great Ocean Road to the grazing country around Mortlake, and every course here is open to the public. Port Fairy Golf Links is the standout: the club was founded in 1899, moved to the dunes east of town in 1962 and became a full 18 holes in 1985 under Kevin Hartley, with Mike Clayton advising since 2001. A regular in the national Top 100 rankings, it is genuine links golf, with holes perched on the dunes and along the waterfront to the sound of the surf. Peterborough is a short, quirky course on the Great Ocean Road where the coastal views steal the show and the wind adds bite. Mortlake, with forgiving fairways and pristine greens, and East Framlingham at Ballangeich, tighter in places, offer quiet country golf, and Macarthur is a low-key nine-hole club.
