Golfing in Moorabool Shire Council
Between Melbourne and Ballarat, in semi-rural country around Bacchus Marsh and Ballan, Moorabool has three public courses, each with its own personality. Bacchus Marsh Golf Club was founded in 1907 and has played at Darley since 1974: a gently undulating parkland 18 with panoramic views of the Lerderderg Valley, a good spread of short par 4s and longer par 5s, and a bistro that wins plenty of fans. Bacchus Marsh West at Maddingley is a sociable 18-hole parkland course pitched at the average golfer, with good variety and elevated, fast greens. Ballan (1924) is a par-66 country layout on the banks of the Werribee River, its hilly front nine winding through creeks and trees before a flatter, parkland-style back nine, and weekday clinics welcome newcomers to the game.
