Golfing in Hepburn Shire Council
In spa country around Daylesford and Hepburn Springs, all four of Hepburn's courses are public 18-hole layouts, and none relies on length, which suits the relaxed mood of the place. Hepburn Golf, five minutes from Daylesford and open seven days, is a short, undulating parkland round that rewards imagination and club selection over power; its second nine was developed after the club hired a professional in 1930. Trentham Golf Club, dating from 1937, is deceptively testing, with driveable holes, interesting tee shots, a memorable run of downhill par 3s on the back nine and fine autumn colour. Clunes plays among gum trees on walkable, undulating fairways with sandscrape greens and kangaroos never far away. Creswick completes the list, a par-71 country course where accuracy and course management count for more than distance.
