Golfing in Macedon Ranges Shire Council
Between Melbourne and Bendigo, in the forested country around Hanging Rock, Macedon Ranges golf is hilly, scenic and steeped in history. Woodend (1908) is the oldest, a short, steep par-67 with tight fairways and changing views from almost every hole. Golf has been played at Mount Macedon since the early 1920s, when its nine holes were part of a large guest house complex popular with Melburnians; today it is an undulating, community-run walk with big views and resident kangaroos. Kyneton, a 1950 Vern Morcom layout, is a challenging parkland course with couch fairways and demanding greens. Romsey (1922) is an easy-walking round with split fairways and small greens, and Lancefield (1927) is well kept and relaxed. Gisborne, 45 minutes from the CBD, is a members' club that welcomes visitors and rewards placement over power.
