Golfing in Ararat Rural City Council
In the foothills of the Grampians, Ararat's five public courses make a country golfer's patch: one well-presented main course and a scatter of small-town clubs. Chalambar Golf Club, two kilometres from town at the foot of One Tree Hill, is the main 18-hole course, a par-70 parkland layout with fully watered couch fairways, a mix of strategic short par 4s and demanding par 3s, and views across the Pyrenees Ranges and Mount Langi Ghiran; the bistro is a favourite too. Elmhurst also has 18 holes of quiet regional golf. Aradale in Ararat, Willaura and Lake Bolac are nine-hole country clubs, and Lake Bolac is the one to seek out, a volunteer-run course whose immaculate grass greens are rated among the best visitors have played, with dual tees for a full 18.
