Golfing in Sutherland Shire Council
South of Botany Bay and the Georges River, Sutherland Shire's golf is suburban and mostly public, with one members' club near the surf. Cronulla Golf Club, officially opened in December 1923 in the beachside suburb, is the shire's private course, a relatively flat parkland of tree-lined fairways, water hazards and bunkers that is regarded as one of the better-presented layouts in the area. The other three welcome anyone. Woolooware is a par-70 parkland surrounded by native flora, with gentle slopes and well-placed bunkers that challenge without overwhelming. Kareela at Sylvania, a par-66 parkland, has a strong social following among newcomers and regulars alike. The Sylvania Par 3 complex at Miranda shares its level site with soccer facilities, offering short holes and soccer golf for kids, beginners and groups.
