Golfing in District Council of Loxton Waikerie
In the River Murray and Mallee country of the Riverland, Loxton Waikerie has two public 18-hole courses, and one of them is a genuine destination. Loxton Golf Club, eight kilometres from town, was founded in 1951, reworked by Vern Morcom in 1963 and Brian Crafter in 1976, and is ranked among South Australia's top ten courses. Its irrigated fairways are lined with mature Aleppo pines and gums, with bunkers and grassy mounds around greens that roll true and hold an approach. Waikerie Golf & Country Club plays out at Sunlands, a well-kept country course of lush, wide fairways, varied par threes and longer holes, with on-course villas for staying over. It also hosts regional events such as the Riverland Mixed Foursomes.
