Golfing in Mildura Rural City Council
Victoria's largest council by area stretches from the Chaffey brothers' irrigation colony on the Murray deep into the Mallee, and its golf shifts with the landscape, from watered riverside parkland to traditional sand greens. All six courses are open to the public. Riverside at Nichols Point, founded in 1935, is the pick of the river courses, with doglegs and towering red gums that punish a crooked drive. Red Cliffs (1925) is a friendly, well-presented club with a BBQ beside the 18th green, and Merbein (1926), ten minutes from Mildura, threads easy-walking fairways through small Mallee eucalypts. Mildura Golf Resort offers a resort round in town on red sand, with contoured fairways and water hazards. Out in the Mallee, Ouyen has had a club since 1912, a wide-fairwayed sandgreen course on heathland country, and Underbool is an 18-hole country course.
