Golfing in Northern Grampians Shire Council
On the north-eastern side of the Grampians, around Stawell, St Arnaud and Halls Gap, this is country golf with a mountain backdrop, and all six courses are public. Stawell Golf Club is the main event, an 18-hole layout among gum trees with a creek running through the middle, excellent greens and fairways that stay green through summer, plus a simple self-service set-up. The Halls Gap nine-holer, founded in 1995, is also known as Mount Difficult after the range behind it; kept by volunteers, it has Grampians views from every hole and kangaroos on the fairways, making it an easy holiday round. St Arnaud Country Club, Grange at Black Range, Wallaloo and the par-66 Glenorchy course round out a solid country line-up of unhurried, community-run golf suited to golfers of every standard.
