Golfing in City of Boroondara
Boroondara offers suburban parkland golf east of the CBD, in a city of leafy streets threaded with creeks and the Yarra River. Its two private clubs sit side by side in Kew East. The Kew Golf Club, formed in 1894 and Melbourne's third-oldest club, is a par-70 layout near the river where finding the fairway is the easy part; the real test is the approach to undulating, well-bunkered greens, with small billabongs adding strategy. Green Acres, built in 1948 on an old dairy farm, is a polished par-71 known for quick greens and a mix of tight and open holes. Public golfers have two options: Freeway Golf Course in Balwyn North, a flat, easy-walking 15-hole layout reworked by Pacific Coast Design, and Studley Greens in Kew, a relaxed nine-hole par-3 course with no dress code that suits beginners.
