Golfing in Banyule City Council
Melbourne's north-east offers three 18-hole courses along the Yarra and Plenty rivers, spanning members' club to pay-and-play. The Rosanna Golf Club at Lower Plenty is a private members' club that traces its roots to the Eaglemont Golf Club of 1898, with a parkland course by H. V. Morcom. The Plenty River comes into play on many holes, and thoughtfully placed bunkers and elevated greens reward precision, making it a real test for low markers without overwhelming the rest. Next door, Heidelberg Golf Club opened its first 12 holes in 1928 and the full 18 in 1930, and is open to the public, with established gums, undulating fairways and well-placed bunkering. Ivanhoe Public Golf Course in Ivanhoe East is a par-69 riverside layout with lagoons and elevated tees, ideal for beginners but busy at weekends.
