Golfing in Yarra City Council
Inner-city Yarra, all Victorian terraces and cottages, still manages three flavours of golf. Yarra Bend is the public 18, a par 70 of about 5,200 metres running beside the Yarra River inside Yarra Bend National Park, around 4 kilometres from the CBD; hilly, bush-fringed and full of birdlife, it tests every level and comes with skyline views, a driving range and mini golf. Burnley is the quick fix, a public par-33 nine tucked between the city and the river and open seven days a week, with drivable par 4s and quick greens that suit beginners and improvers. Latrobe Golf Club at Alphington, a private members' club founded in 1948, is narrower, tree-lined parkland where accuracy counts for more than length and large, tricky greens wait at the end of each hole.
