Golfing in City of Monash
Monash sits in Melbourne's south-east, and its golf includes some of the Sandbelt's best-known names. The Metropolitan (1908), ranked 13th in Australia, is a J. B. MacKenzie design of fast, true greens with cleanly cut bunkers pressed hard against them; Alister MacKenzie rated its short 2nd among the best short holes he had seen in Australia. Huntingdale, a C.H. Alison layout and host of the Australian Masters 31 times, is tight and strategic, its extensive bunkering forcing risk-reward decisions. Both are private clubs in Oakleigh South. Riversdale, Victoria's second-oldest club with history dating to 1892, is a private Alex Russell layout of tree-lined fairways, stone bridges and lakes over rolling ground. Public golfers head to Glen Waverley (1967), a flat, walkable creek-side parkland course with bent greens, or the short, shady Oakleigh course beside Scotchmans Creek.
