Golfing in Darebin City Council
Darebin's golf is practical inner-north municipal golf, fitted into parkland between Merri Creek and Darebin Creek, and all three courses are public. Bundoora Park is the council-run 18-holer, a forgiving, well-wooded par-72 with modest bunkering that suits beginners and anyone building confidence. Northcote Public Golf Course, a Sam Berriman design from 1962, is a compact, no-frills layout on crown land beside Merri Creek, affectionately dubbed "Royal Northcote" by its regulars and handy to the city. Strathallan Golf Club in Bundoora, founded in 1957, is the quirkiest of the trio: nine holes with 18 tees set in natural bushland and run by volunteers, where tight tree-lined fairways and small greens make it play tougher than its yardage suggests, and kangaroos and birdlife keep you company.
