Golf in this corner of the Wimmera means wide skies, tree-lined country fairways and small-town hospitality, and all five courses are open to the public. Nhill Golf Club is the oldest and the standout, formed at a meeting at the Commercial Hotel in May 1898; its flat to gently undulating fairways are fully watered, and its large, manicured greens draw consistent praise. It is a stop on the Wimmera Golf Trail, as is Dimboola, an 18-hole course framed by native gums whose clubhouse restaurant draws diners as well as golfers. Jeparit, set beside the Wimmera River, and Rainbow, a compact par-71, are 18-hole country clubs with a strong community feel, while Baker Golf Club at Netherby is a nine-holer with dual tees for those wanting a full round.
