Golfing in Mount Alexander Shire Council
Spread across old goldfields country around Castlemaine, on Dja Dja Wurrung Country, Mount Alexander has three public 18-holers, each with a relaxed, turn-up-and-play feel. Mount Alexander Golf Club sits beside Kalimna Park on the edge of Castlemaine, a hilly par-69 bush layout with grass greens and good views, run by volunteers who go out of their way to fit golfers in, no booking required. Castlemaine Golf Club plays to a par of 72 out at Muckleford, a walkable, bunkerless parkland course among native bushland where kangaroos and birdlife are constant company and the greens are kept in fine order. Maldon's club, dating from 1908, has a shorter par-65 layout on the edge of the historic township, its sand greens giving it a quirky, old-fashioned charm that suits a casual few holes.
