Golfing in Mitchell Shire Council
North of Melbourne, in a shire growing fast around Wallan, Beveridge and Kilmore, Mitchell's golf is mostly honest country fare with one resort twist, and all five courses take public players. Hidden Valley at Wallan opened in 2002 after Craig Parry was consulted on the design; water comes into play on many holes, yet the layout stays forgiving, and its 18th finishes on an island green, with villas on site for a weekend stay. Seymour is a Steve Windscheffel layout and a genuine test, a parkland course with narrow fairways, small greens and contoured surrounds, cared for by a volunteer-supported club. Kilmore is an easygoing country course that suits shorter hitters and walkers, Broadford offers a picturesque setting and small, quick greens with no bunkers, and Puckapunyal rounds out the set with another full 18.
