Golfing in Murrindindi Shire Council
Running from the Kinglake Ranges to Lake Eildon, Murrindindi's golf is a close-knit circuit: the clubs at Alexandra, Eildon, Marysville and Yea take turns hosting the Murrindindi Masters each season, and all four are public 18-hole courses. Yea is the oldest, dating from 1923, a friendly, volunteer-run country course. Eildon followed in 1960, a compact layout in the hills that asks plenty, with sloping fairways, tight tree-lined tees and tricky pins, and a kangaroo crossing is often the only hold-up. The Marysville Community Golf & Bowls Club (1967) sits in a valley ringed by hills like a natural amphitheatre, its approachable front nine giving way to a more demanding back. Alexandra's par-71 course is laid out on a public reserve in town, threading old red gums in and around the racecourse, with water rather than sand as the hazard.
