Golfing in Strathbogie Shire Council
Named for the ranges in its south-east and spread around Euroa, Nagambie, Avenel and Violet Town, Strathbogie offers relaxed country golf with good greens. Euroa Golf Club is the oldest of its four courses, a Vern Morcom design from 1948 that's open to the public: a largely flat parkland layout with creek crossings, true-running bentgrass greens and plenty of birdlife. Strathbogie Golf Club is a quiet, volunteer-run 18-hole members' course with grass greens that welcomes visitors, set in the ranges with picturesque views and kangaroos bounding across the fairways. Nagambie's par-74 course opened in 1996 in the lakes district, flat and bunkerless with wide fairways but small greens that keep it honest. Avenel has a public 18-holer on Bank Street, a casual, club-style round rather than a manicured one.
