Golfing in South Gippsland Shire Council
Taking in the southernmost slice of Gippsland down to Wilsons Promontory, this is rolling beef and dairy country, and its golf follows the terrain: hilly, green and entirely public. Leongatha Golf Club, south of town, is a 1961 Vern Morcom design and the headline course, with lush couch fairways framed by bushland, soft, subtly contoured greens and a layout more challenging than it looks; it is rated among Australia's top 100 public-access courses. Korumburra's par-72 course dates from 1956 with Clem Enderby as designer, a short, hilly layout in the Strzelecki Ranges with tight driving and fast, tricky greens. Foster rewards accuracy with narrow fairways and small greens near the Prom, Mirboo North is a tight, tree-lined 18-hole par-54, and Welshpool and the volunteer-kept nine at Woorayl offer relaxed country golf.
