Golfing in City of Swan
Perth's largest council by area, running from Guildford and Midland through the Swan Valley to Bullsbrook, has three public courses. The Vines Golf & Country Club is the big name: a 1989 Graham Marsh and Ross Watson resort design among Swan Valley bushland, known for its large bent-grass greens, deep bunkers and grassy hollows, and a past host of the Heineken Classic and Johnnie Walker Classic. Chequers at Bullsbrook opened in 1962 and was named after its founders' favourite pub; its small, fast greens and firm, sandy rough punish anyone who strays from the fairway, so bring your A-game. Altone Park in Beechboro is a par-70 nine-holer, short but deceptively taxing, with water on most holes and narrow, tree-lined fairways.
