Golfing in South Burnett Regional Council
Spread across the farming country south of the Burnett River, the South Burnett keeps a golf club in every main town, and all seven are open to the public. Kingaroy Golf Club, established in 1925 on the Bunya Highway, has the only full 18-hole course, a relaxed par-73 parkland with well-kept fairways, lush greens and rarely any pressure on the tee. The rest are country courses with long histories and strong social sides. Proston (1932) is a nine-hole, 18-tee layout on just under 40 acres of countryside with camping on site, and Wondai Country Club dates from 1941. Murgon's undulating nine crosses a river that can run dry and earns big praise for its greens, while Nanango and Kumbia offer picturesque, easygoing rounds. Blackbutt is the odd one out, with 14 holes and a par of 55.
