Golfing in Somerset Regional Council
An hour west of Brisbane, the lakes and hills of the Brisbane Valley host four public nine-hole country courses, each a relaxed small-town round. Lowood & District is the pick for history, a Tom Southcombe layout dating from 1962 that uses dual tees to play to par 72 over a full 18, with lush fairways, little rough and an easy walk. Kilcoy plays over undulating ground with 18 tees on its nine greens, tree-lined fairways, dams and bunkers to negotiate, and views across the surrounding countryside. Toogoolawah is a volunteer-run, community-spirited nine on open, undulating terrain, well kept and genuinely welcoming. Esk Country Golf Club, out on the Esk Hampton Road, is laid out within the local racecourse, where mature trees and bunkers reward straight, thoughtful play.
