Golfing in North Burnett Regional Council
Golf runs deep in the North Burnett, a region of farmland and rugged ranges around the Burnett River: the council says Australia's first game was played on Eidsvold station. Today every one of its six towns has a public country course, and the appeal is relaxed small-town golf with a strong social side. Monto, Biggenden and Mount Perry each play 18 holes, with Mount Perry's par-70 layout an approachable test for an unhurried round. Eidsvold has a par-66 18, a chance to play close to where the game reputedly began in Australia. Gayndah, the historic centre, has a pretty nine-hole course in attractive rural surrounds that still offers a fair test, and Mundubbera's nine is known for warm hospitality and a clubhouse as popular as the course itself. Expect friendly locals and an easy pace throughout.
