Golfing in Benalla Rural City Council
About two hours from Melbourne in north-east Victoria, Benalla's golf is two public 18-hole courses in and around town. Benalla Golf Club was formed on 19 June 1903 with 12 members and a nine-hole course in town; today it plays an 18-hole, par-73 layout with Santa Anna fairways in a flat bushland setting, with Sam Berriman as architect of the newer course. It is a walkable, approachable round with well-kept greens and kangaroos grazing beside the fairways, suiting beginners and seasoned players alike, and the bistro looks out over the course. Golden Vale, also in Benalla, is a second 18-hole course, a par-71 country layout that offers a relaxed, unhurried alternative for visitors after a straightforward round.
