Golf in the Greater Shepparton City Council area

Greater Shepparton is Goulburn Valley country, and all seven of its courses are public. Shepparton Golf Club is the one to seek out. It opened with nine sand-scrape holes on a sandbank beside the river, reached 14 holes in 1926 and bought extra land in the 1930s to make room for 18, and it now appears in ausgolf's top 100 public-access courses; its free-draining sandhill fairways and doglegs reward accurate driving. Hill Top at Tatura, a walkable parkland course with water, bunkers and a double green, and Mooroopna, a tight riverside layout lined with big gums, join it in the annual 3 Course Classic. The rest are 18-hole country courses: Kialla, a peaceful turn-up-and-play layout beside Honeysuckle Creek, Murchison with its traditional sand scrape greens, plus Cosgrove and Merrigum.
