Golfing in Rural City of Wangaratta
Golf in Kelly Country around Wangaratta is public from top to bottom, and the two 18-hole courses have real pedigree. Wangaratta Golf Club, established in 1906, plays over the old Waldara Estate a few kilometres north-west of town: a gentle, fully watered parkland layout whose flatter, shorter front nine gives way to a livelier back nine mixing flat and hilly holes. Jubilee Golf Club dates from 1935 and opened its Dick Pendlebury-designed course in the Warby Ovens National Park in 1963; it is undulating bushland golf with views to the Warby Ranges and Ovens Valley, true-running greens, and kangaroos and koalas for company. Boorhaman adds a community-run nine-hole parkland course, with a footgolf layout threaded through it, that suits families, groups and anyone after an easygoing hit.
