Golfing in Buloke Shire Council
This is wide-open Mallee country, 8,000 square kilometres of grain-growing land in north-west Victoria, and its golf is exactly what you would expect: unhurried, community-run and open to anyone. All five courses are public. Charlton Golf Club, dating from 1947, plays an 18-hole, par-73 country course and is the pick for a full round, though it pays to check ahead for competition days. Birchip and Wycheproof both offer full 18-hole layouts in quiet small-town settings, Wycheproof with a clubhouse for a drink afterwards. Sea Lake runs a sand scrape course that opens from April to October, while Berriwillock adds a nine-hole course. Expect low-key rounds, open landscapes and a genuine local welcome rather than manicured resort golf.
