Golfing in Central Goldfields Shire Council
Near the geographical centre of Victoria, in old gold-rush country, each of the three main towns has a public 18-hole course, and the flavour throughout is friendly country golf. Maryborough Golf & Bowls Club is the hub: a well-grassed parkland layout with fairways lined by native flora and golden wattle that lights up the course in spring. It plays on a site declared a permanent reserve in 1863, with a clubhouse built in 1911, two bowling greens and a bistro. Talbot offers a par-71 country course that is approachable for most handicaps but still rewards accurate, considered play. Dunolly's shorter par-65 layout is a small club with plenty of community spirit. None of the three is intimidating; all suit golfers who value a relaxed round and a warm welcome over polish.
