Golfing in Indigo Shire Council
Around the gold-rush town of Beechworth in north-east Victoria, Indigo's golf is relaxed country golf, and sand greens are very much part of the story. All four courses welcome public golfers. Rutherglen is an 18-hole sand-scrape course beside Lake King, an offbeat, good-humoured round whose greens play differently to what most visitors expect. Yackandandah's nine-hole course is a picturesque, tree-lined sand-scrape layout with alternate tees for a full round, quiet fairways and welcoming members, though the scrapes take some getting used to. Beechworth is a relaxed country club a few minutes from the centre of town, and Chiltern adds a par-73 18-holer. None of these are about polish or prestige; they suit golfers touring the north-east who want an unhurried game and a friendly local welcome.
